Aleya Kassam

Aleya Kassam is a Kenyan writer, storyteller, performer and Jaladan, who has been published in The Rumpus, Brainstorm, Sahan Journal, The Elephant and Jalada. Her story, The Jacaranda Tree was longlisted for a Golden Baobab Prize for African Children’s Literature and her blog was nominated for Best New Blog at the Blog Awards Kenya. She has performed in ‘The Vagina Monologues’, ‘Stories from the Mall’, ‘And Then She Said’, ‘Red Rabbit, White Rabbit’, Jalada’s ‘Upright Revolution’ as well as ‘Silence is a Woman’ and ‘Cut off my Tongue’. Most recently she co-wrote and starred in Too Early For Birds: The Brazen Edition, which told historical stories of extraordinary Kenyan women, and premiered at the Kenya National Theatre in 4 sold out shows.
